Palms

On the long Jerusalem highway
In the light of coming day
Fulfill the prophecy – on donkey and calf
To enter the city – the first becomes last

The Palms, the Palms
All creation joins the song
Spread your cloak and help along
The King is coming-

At the gates of Jerusalem that day
He entered the city this way
‘Hosanna in the highest’ the crowd did call
The Kingdom of David has returned to us all

The Palms, the Palms
All creation joins the song
Spread your cloak and help along
The King is coming- spread the Palms

Bridge
The Lord is God
Make his light so shine
With boughs in hand
Join the festival!

Blessed is He who comes
His Love lasts forever
The Lord is God
Hosanna!

He spoke in Jerusalem that day
All heard who came this way
“The stone once rejected – is the new foundation
The Kingdom is coming- the first in all nations”

The Palms, the Palms
All creation joins the song
Spread your cloak and help along
The King is coming-

On the long Jerusalem highway

I was asked to perform for Palm Sunday at church; and as I looked through my liturgical music, I discovered that there were no songs regarding Jesus’ triumphant march into Jerusalem. The church generally chooses to use Palm Sunday to focus peoples’ attention to the following Friday- Good Friday; which is the observance of His crucifixion. As such, this generally makes the mood on Palm Sunday rather somber; on a day we should be celebrating the acknowledgement of the King. This is the result of my attempt to rectify this situation.
