Paper Worlds – Really

Lyric ©2008 Steven Macdonald
Music: “Paper Worlds” by Talis Kimberley

It isn’t just
Space though I know it’ll take my
Place in here like my wife says it
Will where other things sit it isn’t just
Space and it isn’t just
Mine though she says it casts dark
Shadows back and the mess ensnares me
Still through centuries’ gaze it isn’t just mine

And I’ve learned to live with my here and now,
but I need escape and that’s allowed
I can leave behind this madding crowd:

Here are paper piles to draw me in
I wish for a life lived with a larger bin
Here are paper piles that weigh on my brain
And I move them again and again and again
There are paper piles that press oh so near
Paper bergs that make an air of fear
Here are paper piles to stir is my goal
To clean my house and make a hole
And make a hole
And make a hole

And it isn’t just
Me who filled my childhood
Summers and my winter nights with
These I know it isn’t just
Me and wasn’t it
Loud how such a tiny
Mother yelled at us with mAlice
CLEAN YOUR ROOM – it wasn’t just me…

And I’ve learned to live with my here and now,
but I need escape and that’s allowed
I can leave behind this madding crowd:

Here are paper piles to draw me in
I wish for a life lived with a larger bin
Here are paper piles that weigh on my brain
And I move them again and again and again
There are paper piles that press oh so near
Paper bergs that make an air of fear
Here are paper piles to stir is my goal
To clean my house and make a hole
And make a hole
And make a hole

There are paper piles that no one ties,
That take our chairs, and make us sigh
Paper rivers run, the rivers fall
Paper planet, gravity holds it all
There are paper piles that keep the house from cold
Where pages flutter and make a farm for mold
Paper towers fall, fill paper barrows in
I am so guilty of paper sin
Paper paving ways in every path I clear
Till I drink a beer
These paper bergs disturb my soul
To make a hole, and it isn’t just me
I say it isn’t just me (who has lived in paper worlds)
