In A Quiet Moment

©1996 Steven Macdonald

In a quiet moment of reflective thought
I sit here and wonder over what we’ve fought
The trials, the storms; upheavals-
The rocky road to come.
And in a quiet moment, I think of what we’ve done.

In a quiet moment, I think about the pain.
The loneliness, frustration. It goes against my grain.
The suddenness of conflict
The hurting in the fall.
And in a quiet moment, I think about it all.

But life is more than pain or fear-
They’re just stops along the road.
Travel on beyond the storm-
There’s Light that we can hold.

Instrumental

In a quiet moment of reflective thought
I sit here and ponder over what we’ve sought.
All we really cherish
Must be birthed by trial.
And in a quiet moment- let’s go walk that mile.

This song was written when I realized that Susan and I had been living in chaos through most of our time together. We were in the middle of a 10 month seperation due to jobs carrying us to different states; and it was a horrifying realization that this was the happiest time in our marriage. With this piece I realized that nothing worth having is easy; and maintaining happiness in your life requires discipline and work.
