Pegasus Awards
|
(Note:
Much of the information on this page was The Pegasus Awards are awarded annually at the Ohio Valley Filk Fest (or OVFF) to recognize the best filk songs and performers. Anyone with an interest in filk can nominate songs or individuals for the awards, and anyone can vote. Currently awards are given in five categories: Best Song, Best Performer, Best Writer and 2 topical categories that vary from year to year. Some examples of past categories include: Best Love Song, Best Literature Song, Best Techie Song, Best Sing Along, etc. Typically, the OVFF convention committee solicits nominations for the Pegasus Awards during the spring. Ballots are distributed in the spring, and must be returned by the opening night of OVFF. You can also vote online. The entire process is administered by the OVFF convention committee. These awards were founded to recognize and honor excellence in filking. Eventually, I hope to have a list of all the nominees for the last 15 years that the awards have been given up here. The reason for this is that the nominating ballots are blank; people have to pull the nominations from their own memory/experience/heart. In my opinion, anyone who is nominated has been singularly honored. You can see a list of all the past winners here. The image at the top of the page is a direct scan of the front of a Pegasus award (one of mine, actually... ). M.A.S.S. F.I.L.C. has published a songbook, The Pegasus Winners, Volume I. It has the lyrics and the sheet music (of the original tunes) for most of the award winning songs from 1984-1993. There is more information about the Pegasus Awards on the M.A.S.S.F.I.L.C. site. A Pegasus Award FAQ should also be added to the OVFF site soon. |
